Executive Secretary of the Yobe State Primary Health Care Management
Board (YSPHCMB) disclosed this at the opening of the one day Media
Orientation on LLINs Campaign in Damaturu on Monday the 6th May 2019,
which attracted pool of media practitioners in the State.
The media orientation was held at Summit Conference Hotel in Damaturu, Yobe State.
Dr. Gana who was represented by Alhaji Mohammed Ali, the Asst. Director, Immunization & Disease Control of the Board. He explained that modalities to ensure that all households in the state were effectively covered in the distribution exercise were already being worked out.
Dr. Gana said the state was collaborating with federal authorities and other malaria partners to ensure that malaria is reduced to the barest minimum.
The Executive Secretary explained that the Distribution Campaign would cover every household across all the Seventeen (17) LGAs in the state. He also said that the treatment of malaria remained free in any government health facilities in the state and that the state government had intervened in various ways to check the scourge.
In her presentation, Mrs. Adaeze Aidenagbon Senior Campaign Manager for Malaria Consortium stated that over 8000 Household mobilizers have been engaged to carry out the registration exercise. She further reiterated further that the team is ready for the distribution exercise, where she mentioned that there are about 956 distribution points that are designated for the free net distribution.
Mrs. Adaeze however explained that there are routine net distribution mechanisms available in the State apart from the household campaign. These routine distribution include school-based distribution, health facility distribution during antenatal care visits or during vaccination, prison-based, etc. She then added that the goal is to attain a positive net use culture across all the populace of Yobe State, where everyone imbibes the culture of always sleeping inside a net.
Alhaji Maina Ali, the Yobe State Malaria Elimination Program Manager in his presentation said that malaria is the most common preventable public health problem.
The Demand Creation Consultant for the Yobe LLIN campaign, Farooq Muhammed Awwal took journalists on why the media is crucial in the campaign, the use of LLINs and the Frequently Asked Questions concerning the utilization of the LLIN and the Net use in general.
Mr. Farooq called on the media to help in making the campaign to succeed so as to mitigate the scourge of malaria in Yobe State and Nigeria at large.
More information about the campaign emerged that the household mobilization will begin from May 18th - 26th 2019, the state flag-off of the campaign will happen on the 7th June, 2019 and it is expected to be graced by the new Executive Governor of Yobe State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni who will just be nine days in the office.
The main distribution of the LLINs is expected to begin in the state from the 8th - 12th, June 2019
