Gov. Buni presenting a Sword of Honoor to Hon Min State works & Housing Engr Aliyu during the grand State reception in his honor with the senate president, Ahmed Lawan in Damaturu. |
Minister Engr. Aliyu savours honor from own state, expresses gratitude
Engr. Aliyu
is the immediate past Deputy Governor of Yobe State.
He became
the deputy governor of the state following the death of his elder brother, Late
Sen. Mamman Ali who died in 2009 and his subsequent appointment by then Deputy Gov.
Ibrahim Gaidam who constitutionally ascended the seat of the governor after the
demise of his principal.
Engr. Aliyu
whom many believed would have naturally succeeded his principal Gov. Ibrahim
Gaidam due to his flagship loyalty throughout his ten years stewardship was
even denied a senatorial seat after he was even screened as a candidate due to
intriguing internal party horse-trading.
The former
deputy Governor in the thicket of all these storms never complained nor
revolted against the party leadership in the state which his boss, Ibrahim Gaidam
was in charge. His eventual nomination as minister and conformation is still
shrouded with some un-answered questions as to who played the human role of his
appointment aprat from the divine hand of God.
Expressing his gratitude to Gov. Mai Mala Buni and the people of the
state, Engr. Aliyu wrote on his Facebook Page https://web.facebook.com/EngrAbubakarDAliyuFnse/ “Yesterday will forever remain a memorable day in
the history of Yobe State as myself and the President of the 9th Senate, Dr.
Ahmad I. Lawan, CON were hosted to a Grand Reception by The Governor of Yobe
State, Hon. Mai Mala Buni on behalf of entire Yobeans. Thank You Yobe State
Government and all the good people of Yobe. We are sincerely grateful, the
minister said.
Our
Correspondent who monitored the event reports that the two Honourees were
presented with a Sword of Honor as a symbol that as
warriors from Yobe State, they will continue to fight towards improving the
lives of the people of this country.

Two illustrious sons of Yobe State, Senate President Ahmed Lawan and the Minister
of State for Works and Housing, Engr. Abubakar Aliyu were on Saturday honoured by
their home state.
The duo were treated to a grand state reception by the Gov. Mai Mala Buni amidst hundreds of
supporters at the Banquet Hall of Government House Damaturu.
While Senator Dr Ahmed Lawan is being honoured for
his election as the President of the ninth senate of the Federal Republic of
Nigeria, Engr. Aliyu on the other hand was
honoured for his appointment as the minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Engr. Aliyu is the immediate past deputy governor of
the state. He has served as Deputy Governor in the last ten years.
Our correspondent who monitored the event reports
that the immediate past governor, now senator Ibrahim Gaidam chaired the
occasion which was attended by other dignitaries including former governor
senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim and three former military administrators, Group
Captain JI Ben Kalio, Police Commissioners, Dabo Aliyu and Sani Daura and many
others.
Presenting his welcome address, Yobe State governor
Mai Mala Buni spoke glowingly of the two honourees who he described as worthy
sons of the state.
Gov.
Buni believed that the leadership style of Sen. Ahmed Lawan has already started
yielding fruitful results between the executive arm of government and the
national assembly, which he noted has restored trust between the two arms of
government.
His words: “Today, thanks to
his robust leadership and the support of his 108 senate colleagues, the Senate
President has restored that vital trust between the legislative and executive
branches of the government. “For the first time in a very long time, Senator
Ahmed Lawan has also restored the January-December budget circle as provided for
in the 1999 Constitution (as amended), giving the government the opportunity to
more ably deliver on its mandate.

“Within six months of becoming the Senate
President, Senator Ahmed Lawan has also recorded a slew of other
accomplishments, justifying once more the need for a cordial, amicable working
relationship between the legislature and the executive.
“These include, but are not
limited to, the speedy passage of the 2020 finance and appropriation bills, and
the passage of the 2020-2022 Medium Term Expenditure Framework and the Fiscal
Strategy Policy Paper.
“Some of you here may recall
that when President Muhammadu Buhari sent the list of his ministerial nominees
to the Senate, the Senate President got his senator colleagues to cut short
their recess in order to screen the nominees. It is a testament to his
leadership that all the ministerial nominees were considered and passed in
record time by the Senate.
“There is something equally
significant, if not more significant about the Senate President, that needed to
be told. It is about his character and his vision for the country that he
loves.
“His entire life is a story of
hard work, service and the quest for consensus and compromise. As a university
lecturer, he was an inspiration to his students, and many of his former
students are getting to the peaks of their careers today because of his
mentorship and guidance.
“As a scholar and a legislator
for over 20 years, Senator Ahmed Lawan understands the need for congruence and
harmony between theory and practice, between idealism and realism. He knows
that part of the responsibility of the Senate as a co-equal branch of the
government is to tamper the legitimate, unceasing demands of the people with
the limits of what the government can and should do. That means that the Senate
must always be a bridge for our democracy to thrive and our people to prosper.
“This is a task to which the
Senate President has set himself with remarkable success.
“In doing so, he constantly
works with his colleagues in the APC and across party line to ensure that the
Senate speaks with one voice, and that its main focus remains to legislate for
good governance and the security and wellbeing of the people of the country,”
Gov. Buni said.
The
governor expressed joy that Yobe is
proud of producing the number three citizen of the country and even for that
singular reason cannot seize to celebrate their son, Dr. Lawan.
“We
also celebrate the Senate President today because he is from Yobe State. It is an honour that the number
three citizen of the country is from our state. We are grateful to all the
senators and to Nigerians for making this possible. We are also grateful to the
people of Yobe Zone C. It is their support and their votes that made this
possible; and this made Yobe State an integral part of the nation’s leadership,”
he added.
Speaking
of the Minister of State Works and Housing, Engr. Aliyu, Gov. Buni described him as a role model and an inspiration to the
younger ones who look up to him as “a very loyal and committed person for any
duty assigned to him”, adding that “loyalty, patience and service to people” is
what signifies Engr. Aliyu
“We celebrate him for the
example he sets and the inspiration he provides to so many young people who are
mirroring and projecting themselves in him, and imagining themselves soaring to
higher places if they commit to the values that define his life – loyalty, patience,
and service to the people”, Gov. Buni said.
In his
address, the chairman of the occasion who is the immediate past governor, now,
Sen. Ibrahim Gaidam noted that even though they had difference at a point in their political life, his support for Lawan never withered because of what he saw in his personality.

Those things
he summed up as, “ talent, focus, and reliability, and his capacity to argue
his position powerfully on the floor of the senate”.
Sen.
Gaidam added that “I have no doubt that
in the months and years ahead, Senator Ahmed Lawan will continue to do us proud
by recording many more achievements and advancing legislation that would continue
to promote the corporate existence of the country and uplift the living
conditions of the people”.
Speaking
on the second honouree and minister of state works and Housing who served as
his deputy for more than a decade, Gaidam said, “From the moment I made the
decision to appoint him as my deputy governor following the death of the late
Governor Mamman Ali and my ascension to the position of governor of the state
in 2007, I have not regretted or looked back for one moment”.
He explained
that, “I have worked with Engr. Abubakar Aliyu for a total of ten years and
four months. Together, we have built more than a thousand kilometres of road
across our state; we built a new and modern teaching hospital and a college of
medical sciences for the training of indigenous doctors. We renovated hospitals
and schools and we also ensured that workers received their salaries on a
timely and regular basis and retirees their pensions and gratuities.
“Throughout
that period, Engr. Abubakar D. Ali remained a very loyal and supportive deputy
governor. I dare say that he was arguably the most loyal deputy governor in the
history of this country,” he said.
Highlights
of the even was the presentation of a Sword of Honor to the Senate President
and the Minister by Gov. Mai Mala Buni as a mark to continue the defence of
Yobe State.

integrity and responsibility, this is why I felt that the best place for you to
take this oath is the faculty of law of the state university.
“There have been complaints and writing of
petitions in my office about the election but I am happy that nobody is
insulting anybody. Everybody is just writing their complaints and speaking
their minds on the issues. That is the beauty of democracy and I must commend
you peoples.
But my message to you people especially the
outgoing president and members of the electoral committee is that you ensure
that a fair and credible election is conducted that will usher in your
successor. In that way you can stand tall and your name will be written in
gold. Anything short of that will be the opposite of your reputation,” Dr. Kagu
advised.

by the members of the electoral committee which was administered by Barr.

![]() |
Baba Ganaru |
The Technical Adviser and Head Coach of El – Elkanami Football Club of Maiduguri, Mohammed Baba Ganaru has said he only stayed back at the club after relegation from the top flight to bring the team back to the Nigeria premier league.
Coach Baba Ganaru, a top-flight coach who has previously coach other premiership clubs in the country, including Kano Pillar and Enyimba said he hopes to bounce back to the Nigeria Premier league by next season with his home club.
“To be sincere with you, that is the reason why I stayed back at El-Kanami because I want to take the club back to where it belongs. I turned down offer for premiership sides because I want to bring this team back to the Nigeria Premier league,” Baba Ganaru informed.
The El – Kanami Manager who spoke with reporters after a goal-less draw at the August 27th Stadium Damaturu with the Yobe Desert Stars Fc in a national league encounter during the weekend attributed his draw to poor pitch which he said is one of the problems of Nigeria League.
The former Yobe Desert star coach described the atmosphere in Damaturu as amazing saying, “the terrain is familiar and it’s a good atmosphere playing in this stadium. It good to take one point here but honestly that was not our plan. I was coming here to take the three maximum points”, Baba ganaru said.
Both teams were relegated from Premiership football last season.

to discuss matters aimed at cementing the already existing cordial relationship
and partnership that exist between the Coalition on one hand and Yobe State

also avail us the window of exploring avenues geared towards promoting the

represented here,” the governor said.
The governor also expressed optimism that, “with
the visit, together with the Coalition
of Northern Chamber of Commerce and the State Chamber of Commerce and the
Organised Private Sector(OPS), we will open a new chapter towards
re-invigoration and re-focusing our priorities, setting targets for the public
and private sector partnerships for investments promotion and fashioning out clear strategies for the

Why I am investing in agriculture – Dr Indimi
Why I am investing in agriculture – Dr Indimi
Dr. Indimi(left) with Pro Chancellor Unilorin, Dr. Oyelekan at the MoU signing |
The Chairman, Oriental Group of Companies, Dr. Mohammed Indimi, OFR has explained why he has decided to diversify into investing his money into agriculture.
Dr. Indimi who spoke with journalists penultimate week in Maiduguri at the signing of a multi-million dollar MoU between one of his subsidiary companies, OER Farms Limited and University of Ilorin said enhancing food security in the country was his major concern to venture into agricultural investment in his country Nigeria.
He refuted insinuation in the global fear that oil will no longer be a major player in the world’s economies, stressing that, “we are going to drill the until until we drain it. Maybe not in my generation but I have groomed the younger one that will do that. My company does a lot of things and not just oil. Like I said before, agriculture is my long-time dream and I am very happy that we have ventured into it now. I am also particularly happy because our investment in agriculture will enhance the food security in the country,” Dr. Indimi disclosed.
The Borno born oil mogul also threw his weight behind President Mohammadu Buhari’s decision to closing the country’s borders, stressing that, “such drastic measures will enhance production and boost local economy of the country,
“If you go to Benin Republic now, there is over 15 million tonnes of rice to be shipped into Nigeria. I asked, why can’t they consume it and I was told that they only eat their local rice. They don’t eat the foreign rice themselves and they want to dump it on other people.
“This is unacceptable and I commend the president for his stand on the closure of our borders,” Dr. Indimi said.
Dr. Indimi who had earlier with the Pro Chancellor of University of Ilorin, Prof. Jubril Oyelekan sealed a deal with the university on behalf of his company and the University at his office in Maiduguri also expressed joy that, “this project is a massive one and its quite unique because we are not bringing anybody from outside, university of Ilorin are going to provide the land for us and their Faculty of Agriculture will be providing all the labour and the expertise and we will pay them”.
Details of the OER Farms Ltd and University of Ilorin MoU as obtained by ImpactOnlineNigeria indicates that the agreement will be a 21-year Land Lease Agreement with University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) to develop a 10,000-hectare mechanised agricultural project, which will be managed in line with best industry practice to increase productivity within the sector.
Improved crop varieties with high yielding cash crops such as maize, soya beans and cashew are proposed for the project. The project is also designed to develop the capacity of the University of Ilorin in agricultural research, improve farm practice, develop young agric entrepreneurs who will give farming a different perspective, promote local Inclusion and enhance economic viability in catchment areas.

OERL also provided funding for a 5-year supply of contemporary academic books and laboratory consumables among others to the university. Similar enhancement of education facilities and learning environment is ongoing at the University of Maiduguri, Borno State, where a Centre for Distance Learning is being constructed by the Muhammadu Indimi Foundation
